NaSTA and Unibox Team Up to Showcase Student Television
NaSTA and Unibox have agreed a long–term partnership to showcase student television, starting at this year’s National Student Television Association Conference at LUST.
Unibox filmed the gala awards ceremony on the Sunday night of the conference and every NaSTA delegate will receive a DVD souvenir of the finalized awards show.
Unibox is a new student television channel previewing in April 2008 with a full launch scheduled for the start of the new academic year in Oct 2008. Unibox will be channel 106 on the Freewire IPTV platform, which is currently available in over 110,000 student bedrooms on campuses all round the UK. Unibox will be in good company on Freewire, alongside channels such as BBC, Channel 4, MTV and Setanta Sports.
Any student television station can contribute shows or clips to be aired on Unibox and the channel is also commissioning new programming from students, including news, music, comedy, animation, documentaries and short films.
Prior to the advent of digital video technology, particularly computer editing software, a student television station was costly to run and the programmes were difficult to edit. When digital technology became available and relatively cheap it became possible for students to take advantage of it and many new stations were set up at the end of the nineties and early part of this decade. The number of stations continues to grow each year.
